Bayside Beach Association Board Candidates
Joe Bohez – Joe has lived in West Bloomfield for 33 years, 26 of those years as a member of Bayside Beach Association. He has previously served on the Bayside Beach Board of Directors. He regularly contributes to making the beach a pleasurable place to enjoy summer events, especially with several beach event set-ups and food service, i.e. at Music on the Lake. Joe planted several bushes on the beach property so as to help the association fulfill the requirements for the West Bloomfield Wetlands permit that was procured for the boat ramp replacement project.
Dean Hare – Dean moved to West Bloomfield in 1974 residing on Colony Drive and Middle Straits Lake at that time. He graduated from Walled Lake Central High School in 1976, after which he moved away for several years. Dean moved into his present home in 1994, joining Bayside Beach that same year. For the first few years of membership, Dean served his work hours at the beach by doing weekly beach clean-ups. For several years, he served as the dock chairman, prior to Allen Oblak. Most recently, for the past 5 years, Dean has served as the beach association’s work assessment chairman, a position requiring a major time commitment and much organization. He works with beach members to encourage them to sign up and complete their beach work hours. For the past 3 years, Dean has been the board alternate. Dean’s goals for the beach are to make our beautiful beach clean and enjoyable for all members and to work at full membership compliance with work hour completion. Also, as a board member, he hopes to assist the board with making our beach association move forward on improvements.
David Moody – Dave has been a member of Bayside Beach since 1985. He has served on the board of directors for over 14 years. Dave continually works to help oversee, improve, and repair our beach property. He spearheaded the building of our beach property’s storage facility and voluntarily communicates with contractors to ensure proper maintenance and improvement of the beach.
Chuck Safalian – Chuck is a relatively new member of the Bayside Beach Association, having moved next door to the beach in October 2014. He and his family have lived in West Bloomfield for 19 years. You may have seen and heard Chuck perform at our Music on the Lake events in the band, Eddie and the Hip Breakers. He plays the bass guitar. As an employee of General Motors, Chuck was a mechanical engineer. Most recently, he has been involved in home renovation projects inside and around his home. (He and his wife Cindy bought the formerly known “salmon-colored” house just south of the south parking lot of the beach property. It has been transformed from a pit to a treasure.) Chuck has participated in beach clean-ups during the week and after this year’s 4th of July party. He hopes to help even more so as a board member.
Nick Zajac –Nick joined the Bayside Beach Association in 1983. He has served numerous terms as a board member and has been involved in various projects at the beach, such as dock installation, fireworks, and power-washing the pavilion area. Nick frequently oversees many of the major repair projects that are done each year at our beach. Nick appreciates the many ways our beach has improved over the years and would like to see this progress continue. He is married to Louise.
Condolences
The Bayside Beach Association officers and Board of Directors extend their condolences to the following families:
- the family of Dave Moody whose dear wife, Cheryl (who in past years had been very active as a Bayside Beach officer) passed away after an extended illness
- and the family of James Middleton of Crestdale whose beloved wife, Kimberly, passed away recently. The Middletons are long time members of Bayside Beach.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. Beach Closing Date
Beach closing is scheduled for Saturday, September 28 starting at 9AM. If by that date, you have not yet served your required work hours, please plan on joining fellow members in preparing the beach for winter.
2. GATES MUST ALWAYS BE LOCKED!
In order to keep insurance rates reasonable, it is important to KEEP BEACH GATES LOCKED. Too often the gates are being propped open or are being left unlocked.
3. RAMP REPAIR (PART 2)
The concrete approach to our new boat ramp has developed 2 cracks. The concrete apron is going to be repaired after closing day. No trucks, boats, etc will be allowed to use the ramp until one week after the repair!
KAYAK REGISTRATION
To keep our beach safe and more organized, earlier this year the board approved and implemented a kayak registration procedure for those members who keep their kayaks at the beach. Jeff Parko, our beach’s mooring chairman, is the contact person for kayak registration.
- 1. Contact Jeff at 248.363.2235 to procure the kayak registration form. Fill out the form and return it to him.
- 2. Once registered, if you plan to leave your kayak(s) at the beach, please write your name and phone number somewhere on your kayak(s) for easy identification.
- 3. If your kayak(s) is(are) not formally registered, please do not leave it(them) at the beach.
